Like the little engine that could, I think I can; I think I can; I think I can sign up for the A-Z Challenge! After I post this, I’ll go and sign up…I think. It’s called a challenge for good reason! It’s going to be difficult to post every day (except Sundays). Can I be that interesting?
Whether I can come up with interesting posts every day is my first concern, but my other concern is whether I have to read and comment on the other 490 blogs that have signed up. I sent an email to Arlee Bird of Tossing It Out asking exactly what was expected of me as a reader in the challenge. Here are his suggestions:
- First off, it’s your challenge! Have fun with it!
- Read as many blogs as you feel comfortable with.
- The more followers and comments you want on your blog, the more blogs you should follow, and don’t forget to leave comments.
- To establish strong relationships, follow blogs you truly enjoy and leave quality comments.
- If a fellow blogger visits your blog and comments, reciprocate. This is just good blogging etiquette!
Today my plan is to surf through the participating blogs, find ones that appeal to me and sign up to follow them. One thing I’ve noticed is that a blog on blogspot is much easier to follow than other blogs like mine (WordPress). So I’ve put the Google Friend Connect gadget on my sidebar, hoping that it will make it easier for people to follow my blog. But I’m extremely nervous about having followers. Right now, there’s no pressure. I blog to a teeny-tiny audience of people I know and it’s comfortable. Will I start stressing over every post when I know that other people I don’t know are reading? Will they judge me? Or worse, will I feel rejected if no one wants to follow my blog? Will it feel as bad as when a publisher rejects my writing? Is this a risk I’m willing to take?
I was up for the challenge, but now I think I’ve talked myself out of it! No, no. I’ll still do it. Rejection is just part of being a writer. I’m getting used to it. I’ve written tons of stuff that no one reads. Blogging stuff no one reads shouldn’t feel any different.
Okay! I did it. My blog is listed.
